Electronic letters
Letters differ from cards in that they have an envelope.
Electronic envelopes can be supplied via public key encryption.
The content of a message is decipherable only by the recipient
and the sender can be authenticated.
Why use envelopes?
The psychological atmosphere of sending and receiving plain e-mail
is that of a private conversation. Well ... it is NOT private.
In fact, a minimum of sophistication is required to gain access to e-mail
or to fake outgoing e-mail.
Where to get envelopes
Download the
PGP
program
(Pretty Good Privacy)
and install it
on your machine (easy).
How to use envelopes
Follow the instructions with pgp
and add my public key to your key ring.
Then use pgp to encrypt your message before
mailing it to
gokhman@math.utsa.edu
If you want to have me encrypt my replies to you,
e-mail me your public key, or publish it via your home page or a
keyserver.
